chiropractic care for whole person wellness by wthn

Chiropractic Care for Whole Person Wellness

Twenty-two million Americans visit chiropractors every year according to WebMD. So there’s no doubt it’s become a go-to treatment for health seekers that want to avoid surgery and/or medication. But only 35% of these patients use chiropractic for pain and injuries. Because there are many other benefits.

Chiropractic Care Targets Whole Person Wellness

Since Why The Health Not?™ advocates the importance of whole-person wellness, chiropractic care cannot be ignored as an important defensive strategy. Because it’s one that strives to make your body do what it was intended to do, naturally. As a result, this minimizes major health events in the future.

In our hometown of Boise, Idaho, there are almost 200 chiropractic offices. In the offices of Gonstead Spine & Wellness, there’s a sign that greets patients with the profound statement:

“Chiropractic is health insurance.”

Once you educate yourself on what chiropractic care offers you’ll realize why this statement makes sense. It’s not just a temporary approach to minimize pain or inflammation. It’s a homeopathic maintenance program that ensures your nervous system is firing properly so you can enjoy a lifetime of health. This gets right to the heart of whole person wellness and preventative care.

Get to the Root of the Problem

Gonstead’s Dr. Todd Pickman says, “Chiropractic treatments empower the body to work the way it was intended to.” Importantly, it’s all about the core communicators in our body: the brain and the spinal cord, collectively known as the body’s nervous system. At Northside Chiropractic, Dr. Kevin Davis adds, “Nervous system optimization means good health, naturally.”

Chiropractors seek out the root problem for the body’s lack of proper functionality. The medical approach focuses on pharmaceuticals and surgery to treat symptoms. While it’s true that some patients with severe symptoms could need medical interventions, many others could greatly benefit from adjustments that target root causes. And for longer periods of time. Exams to find these root causes include x-rays and physicals targeting reflexes, among other in-office diagnostic techniques.

Empowerment Is Life-Changing

Once relief begins to replace discomfort, patients become empowered as hope begins to replace fear. Northside’s Dr. Mick Tiegs notes, “Patients see the value in that. We ask them questions about their exercise and nutrition, and continue monitoring their progress in every appointment. They see us as a lifestyle partner that gets them on track so they can achieve their wellness goals.”

Empowerment through teamwork in the physical pillar of wellness becomes a strong foundation for improvements in other wellness pillars. A strong body means a strong mind (intellectual, emotional and spiritual wellness). Now, you’re ready to tackle the world and take a place at the table of success (financial and social wellness).

In conclusion, how are you tackling your whole person wellness? Watch these videos to determine if chiropractic might be the answer to some of your problems.

Healthiest Companies In America by WTHN
600 400 Why The Health Not

Healthiest Companies in America Embrace Wellness

“The Healthiest Companies in America award recipients prove that employers can both engage their employees and improve their health outcomes . . . . With holistic, engaging and personalized workplace wellness programs that encourage and achieve great participation, employees lead healthier and more productive lives.”

That’s a direct quote from the president and CEO of Interactive Health, Cathy Kenworthy, in an article by Employee Benefit News (EBN) that discusses what makes a wellness program truly successful. The answer will vary based on how deep an employer is willing to go. For example, EBN asks some important questions an employer sponsor should consider:

  1. “Does having healthier employees who use less sick time make a wellness program successful . . .”
  2. “. . . or does the continued investment in an employee’s HSA [Health Savings Account] make the program?”
  3. “Is physical health the goal or is it financial, or mental, or even social?”
Wellness Is Not One Dimensional

Why The Health Not?™ believes true healthcare must address a variety of hidden factors that determine physical wellbeing. Because uncovering the underlying root causes of stress—whether they be financial, emotional, social, intellectual, or spiritual challenges—are the systemic prognosticators of healthy, successful, productive employees.

While some companies recognized among the Healthiest Companies in America focus on promoting physical health in their wellness programs, others go beyond. Ms. Kenworthy’s company includes addressing emotional needs. Yet another, Benefitfocus, targets financial wellness, citing the increasingly debt-laden millennial generation as they enter the workforce.

Employer’s Are Evaluated By Job Seekers

Yes, financial help with student debt is a big plus for millennial job seekers. But the most important shift happening in today’s job market is how far employers will go to recognize the myriad stressors of a complicated, hectic world. There is no doubt competition is fierce, the pace of life is blurry, juggling priorities remains an art, and paying for it all is . . . well, hard.

Employers that prove they understand these overwhelming and universal challenges among their workforce are increasingly viewed as career-worthy destinations. So, if the need exists and you offer it, does that mean engagement, improved whole person wellness, and the Holy Grail: reduced healthcare costs?

Engagement With Benefits Equals Success

To repeat from the opening quote of this article,

“holistic, engaging and personalized workplace wellness programs,” is the end game.

And it describes our vision at Why The Health Not?™ It’s our end game, too. You see, our Health Oriented Pairing Engine (our HOPE app) is a digital health platform—a whole person digital ecosystem—that tracks and gamifies 6 Pillars of Wellness.

In order to promote engagement and success toward meeting individual wellness goals, we plan on having a robust ecosystem of providers that can service all areas of wellness for health seekers. We’re also counting on forward-thinking employers to jump on board by promoting our digital health platform to their workforce.

Consequently, we’re signing on professionals who target 6 Pillars of Wellness as we build out our HOPE app (currently slated for Phase 2 Beta Feb 2017). We expect an enthusiastic level of engagement since we’ll be offering HOPE in emotional, financial, intellectual, social and spiritual health. And that’s on top of the all-important segment of physical health. Therefore, we also expect a greater chance of wellness-oriented success.

Healthiest Companies in America Making WTHN’s Case

One of the success stories cited in EBN’s article is Crowley Holdings, Inc. As stated in the article, “Crowley’s objectives were to:

  • “Continue reducing healthcare costs
  • “Improve health outcomes
  • “Increase program participation by both employees and their spouses
  • “Use the program as an employee recruitment and retention tool
  • “Enhance the company’s overall culture of wellness”

Great minds think alike. For these bullet points reflect the premise behind supporting our digital health HOPE app. When an employer truly desires the above, the answer will be found in advances in smart algorithms that put health seekers in control of preventative care and whole person wellness.

Why The Health Not IndieGoGo A Digital Health Platform?

A digital health IndieGoGo campaign is currently underway. Why The Health Not?™  wants to raise awareness and funding for its new algorithm and platform, entering Phase 2 Beta February 2017. As a result, health seekers and wellness professionals are needed as users of its new Health Oriented Pairing Engine (H.O.P.E.). Most importantly, this comprehensive wellness ecosystem propels healthcare to Wellness 2.0.

Because an  innovative, on demand, real-time health tracking and gamification platform in a HIPAA-compliant digital ecosystem means whole-person wellness.

Therefore, Why The Health Not IndieGoGo?

Campaign: Build the Bridge to HOPE

Contributions, first of all, help build The Bridge To HOPE. Since WTHN aims to shift people away from the old (“sick” care) to the new preventative model (true “health” care), a bridge is needed to make that happen. So, enter the infamous bridge of Tbilisi, Georgia. You may remember it was built to connect the old war-torn section of the city to the newly built one over the Kura River. Most noteworthy is what this bridge represents: HOPE for the future. Similarly, major advances in digital health tech are the bridge to the future of healthcare. And WTHN wants to build one of the most important bridge of all. Because this is best way to give the power of healthcare back to individuals.

6 Pillars of Wellness

Since the foundation of overall health is rooted in many areas of our lives, the HOPE algorithm incorporates six categories of wellness. Almost all individuals need help in any particular one of the following 6 Pillars of Wellness:

  • Physical
  • Emotional
  • Intellectual
  • Financial
  • Spiritual
  • Social

In addition to pairing users with providers in each of the above pillars, HOPE also directs health seekers to relevant services, resources and educational materials according to individual specs. Therefore, HOPE is a vast, comprehensive, proprietary digital ecosystem.

As a result, specific input from users and providers creates individualized wellness solutions for personal lifestyle management. Finally, HOPE is a secure, HIPAA-compliant smartphone app, with real-time collaboration and gamification for maximum engagement and positive outcomes.

Find the IndieGoGo Campaign:
“Why The Health Not?: H.O.P.E., A New Digital Bridge To Total Wellness”

While you’re on the campaign  page, look inside the smartphone app and learn about a variety of perks, including:

  • get first access to the full app
  • receive “The Path To Awesomeness” book
  • add your personal story in a blog to the virtual Bridge of HOPE
  • tell your personal or professional story in an animated short
  • highlight your business to HOPE users in a three-part series

While the IndieGoGo campaign is live until December 1, 2016, WTHN developers are readying for the Phase 2 beta launch of the smartphone app in February 2017.

Maybe you can Help WTHN build the Bridge to HOPE. And participate in true health care, Wellness 2.0, especially relevant to everyone. Since digital health tracking and gamification is the straightest line to real-time life management, it probably means the difference between surviving and thriving.

Wellness Providers Meet Why The Health Not?™
700 467 Why The Health Not

WELLNESS PROVIDERS: Good Health Is Good Business

So why is good health good business? Seems like the professionals themselves have some answers to that question. You see, I speak with wellness providers almost everyday about how Why The Health Not?™ is crafting solutions to help wellness seekers find wellness solutions. And while we hone our own approach, it’s especially relevant to view solutions that speak to the providers’ point of view.

Wellness Providers Thrive On Connections

Consequently, their connections are invaluable. Why? Because wellness providers are “in the trenches” with health seekers. As a result, these direct relationships contain valuable insights from both sides. They get to the heart of what works and what doesn’t. Therefore, if the connection between the two is clouded by miscommunication or mistrust, it can’t last and the wellness chain breaks. The top priority for these professional is to maintain a bond with every client. It sustains a patient’s progress toward better health and it also enables providers a heads up on necessary follow-ups. Maybe most noteworthy of all is it promotes sharing the latest developments and resources that could benefit the patient.

Bridge The Gaps Between Wellness Areas

As lower healthcare costs become more important than ever, the trend toward preventative care is also increasingly important. Consequently, the shift to whole-person wellness uncovers several overlooked treatment areas that are not covered by most health insurance plans. However, these have a direct impact on individual wellbeing due to the stresses they can cause. And these stressors erode confidence, motivation and even the immune system itself. Maybe if we close the gap between seekers and providers—in a variety of “nontraditional” wellness sectors, as well—this may boost preventative health practices and professions. Importantly, it may also lower healthcare costs.

P2P Communication Via Digital Health Platform

Why The Health Not?™ also believes communication is key to patients’ wellbeing. Importantly, our digital health platform is a HIPAA-compliant ecosystem through which patients and health seekers can track all aspects of their treatment programs. Imagine the benefits of being connected to your patients and the other providers who are treating complementary aspects of their health. How powerful would regular Patient-to-Provider and Provider-to-Provider communication be toward insuring health goals are met, medications are properly administered, lapses in follow up minimized? It’s possible with our digital health platform.

Do You Service A Pillar of Wellness?

While good health involves whole-person wellness, Why The Health Not?™ identifies them as 6 Pillars of Wellness. Each pillar is notably detailed in blogs and you can link for additional reading by clicking each pillar listed below. Our health oriented pairing engine (the HOPE app, slated for Phase 2 Beta February 2017), offers wellness providers a proprietary digital health platform from which they may be matched with health seekers. Therefore, if you offer services that promote wellness in

  • physical,
  • emotional,
  • intellectual,
  • social,
  • spiritual,
  • and financial wellness,

you’re also servicing an important pillar of wellness and there’s a community in our HOPE app where you’ll probably find a warm welcome.

Consider, first of all, how you can achieve the goal of these questions:

  1. can you offer better customer service to clients?
  2. could you generate more referrals from existing customers or patients?
  3. might you be more efficient in the marketing of your practice?
  4. share the costs of media, videos, or public relations with other professionals?
  5. maximize social media’s power of persuasion?

Now consider this: Join a collaborative marketing network on a digital health and wellness platform. Our HOPE app fits the bill. What it offers includes:

  • Proactive support network for customers or patients
  • proactive wellness solution for employees
  • customer acquisition tool for the business
  • collaborative marketing network to leverage referrals from like-minded businesses or practices
  • social support network and real-time wellness map for personal needs

In conclusion, the HOPE app smart algorithm matches individual consumers with wellness providers, products, services, and educational materials.

The mission of Why The Health Not?™ is to simplify healthcare by connecting people to the services and resources they need for whole-person wellness.

Join Phase 2 Beta Today

Finally, our business development team is currently filling provider spots in a variety of wellness sectors mentioned above. Most noteworthy: The HOPE proprietary ecosystem is a direct line to an expanded clientele. Additionally, you have a great opportunity to find potential clients. We forecast a health-seeker-to-wellness-provider ratio of 30:1, based on the demographics of the Boise, Idaho metropolitan region. Therefore, if you service the 6 Pillars of Wellness, we offer an ecosystem of HOPE.

Develop Idaho: Digital Health Start-Up Announcement

Why The Health Not?™ Offers New & Innovative Wellness Solutions

Fresh off a dramatic announcement at the annual Develop Idaho technology convention on September 14, 2016, Why The Health Not?™ (WTHN) is picking up steam toward finding principal investment. WTHN is a new technology company that is building solutions for wellness seekers and providers that maximize the user/provider relationship utilizing advances in digital health applications.

Gathering Entrepreneurial Visionaries

Notably, the keynote speaker was Gregg Kaplan, founder and former chief executive officer of Redbox. You probably already know its growth history, a VC-funded start-up and now a ubiquitous presence. Definitely a model to strive for. And, furthermore, a great showcase for Develop Idaho’s mantra of helping technology companies start, grow and thrive. Also among the attendees were many other entrepreneurs with long term visions.

One such visionary was Chrissy Larsen, CEO of WTHN, who spoke at a breakout session following Kaplan’s address. She announced WTHN has developed an algorithm that matches clients to providers, services, and educational material based on the client’s needs and the provider’s abilities.

Health Oriented Pairing Engine

H.O.P.E., a Health Oriented Pairing Engine, creates optimal patient experiences. Referrals won’t be based on word of mouth, marketing hype or advertising. Instead, the pairing engine will pair health seeker to provider along customized parameters. Each party’s needs or service benefits will be entered into their HOPE smartphone app. They’ll be matched according to their particular needs and geographical settings—similar to process of a dating app.

“The relationship between the patient and wellness professional is one of the most important instruments to health.”

Larsen stated, “Individuals are more likely to trust their providers and follow their treatment plans when the relationship with their provider is strong. This leads to better outcomes, more honesty, better diagnoses, and a higher chance of preventing long term or potentially fatal diseases. This is perhaps the most important tool in proactive medicine since mobile technology began tracking our wellness.”

Shift Toward Wellness 2.0

Additionally, Develop Idaho attendees were given a detailed and unique philosophy on healthcare. WTHN believes the foundation of a true shift toward the future of healthcare, Wellness 2.0, means actively promoting overall, or whole-person health. Larsen and her team developed the “6 Pillars of Wellness,” utilizing key insights from another Idaho organization. Healthwise is best known for its innovative publications on proactive wellness. And many are actively adopted by organizations such as WebMD. Additionally, Larsen combines her experience as a wellness provider with extensive research from her data scientists. As a result, the 6 Pillars program smartly links all aspects of an individual’s wellness to define and reach overall wellbeing.

6 Pillars of Wellness

The 6 Pillars represent wellness in Physical, Emotional, Social, Intellectual, Financial, and Spiritual portions of our lives. What is the take away? True health means all of our pillars are strong. Because each affects the other.

“People need to understand that all aspects of our life are related,” Larsen explained.

“For example, the stress that comes from being financially unstable has real impacts on our emotional and physical health. So no matter how often you see a therapist or a doctor, you’re never going to be healthy unless you address the underlying stressor. This is the same for all of your pillars of wellness.” Larsen continued, “I’ve lost too many friends and family members to preventable illnesses and it’s my personal mission to bring people education and technology resources that can improve their health and hopefully save their lives.”

Mobile App Betas

Along with the H.O.P.E. algorithm and the 6 Pillars of Wellness, WTHN shared other exciting announcements. Their first mobile app recently moved from MVP to nearing the end of its second iteration. This app, named What The Health?, expands on the company’s tongue-in-cheek name. Its anonymous messaging board allows users to ask wellness questions, provide answers to others, and seek advice about the 6 Pillars of Wellness.

Larsen highlighted the importance of anonymity. She explained it provides a safe space for people to discuss sensitive topics without fear of judgment. This fear is real, as many of us have experienced on social platforms.

WTHN will also be launching a first-of-its-kind digital dashboard. A snapshot of whole wellness is the goal. The 6 Pillars program will be user-friendly, offer real-time tracking and life mapping. Importantly, it will be HIPAA-compliant. Phase 2 Beta for the H.O.P.E. app begins February 2017.

So please visit whythehealthnot.com and learn more about how to participate in this forward-thinking digital health platform.

Health Tracking Is The Future Of Whole-Person Wellness

Why The Health Not?™ wants to be your health tracking analytics solution. Through digital health applications, smart technology, data science, and the power of the Internet, we’ve designed a matchmaking platform that makes progressive medicine attainable, affordable and available for everyone—everywhere. As a result, WTHN gives people power over their lives!

Health Tracking Means Real-Time Empowerment

In order to develop a better picture of your overall wellness, it’s essential to get involved in every aspect of your health. Since overall wellness means more than just physical health, we’ve designed our platform to be comprehensive. The 6 Pillars of Wellness that help you thrive also include Emotional, Intellectual, Financial, Social, and Spiritual health.

Customize each pillar according to your wants and needs. Then go exploring in our

  • comprehensive,
  • patient-centric,
  • HIPAA-compliant
  • ecosystem of wellness

. . . to find

  • providers,
  • services,
  • resources,
  • and educational materials

. . . that will help you strengthen each and every pillar.

Act Like An Olympian

Once you’ve got your baseline of wellness customized, you can track your progress, raise awareness of what relates to your goals, and make them happen. Did you know that one of the keys to success for Olympic athletes is deliberate, methodical charting of their health? Beginning with details of their training regimen to how much they sleep at night, their calories and workout stats—every aspect of their life is linked to numbers that correspond with their health.

Much like an Olympic athlete, the only way to really know where you stand in terms of health is by staying up-to-speed on what’s really going on. Accomplish this by using a platform that let’s you chart all aspects of wellness.

Statistics Prove Health Tracking Works

According to the Pew Research Center for Internet, sciences and tech,

“seven in ten U.S. adults track a health indicator for themselves or for a loved one . . . . Keeping notes on one’s health has been shown to be a tool for improving it, but up until now there has been no measure of how many people engage in this activity.”

WTHN’s digital health app allows you to track a variety of data, for you or your loved ones. Importantly, WTHN’s data scientists will provide analytics to prove the benefits of health tracking among all 6 Pillars of Wellness.

Additional data from Pew states the following, as reported in their article of January 2013 titled, “Tracking For Health:”

  • 46% of trackers say that this activity has changed their overall approach to maintaining their health or the health of someone for whom they provide care
  • 40% of trackers say it has led them to ask a doctor new questions or to get a second opinion from another doctor
  • 34% of trackers say it has affected a decision about how to treat an illness or condition
  • 7 in 10 U.S. adults have tracked a health indicator for themselves or for someone else

And this is only a baseline. Advances in digital health technology, including our new pairing engine, promise infinite potential, right in the palm of your hands.

Your Healthcare, Your Way

Mapping your six pillars of wellness will give you a real-time snapshot so you can spot deficiencies and positive spurts as you move toward your wellness goals. The more time, attention and effort you put into it, the more likely you’ll notice when things begin to go wrong.

This is what true health care is all about: Preventative, proactive, using digital health to put you on the offensive line of your own wellness.

Map Your Path To Awesomeness With WTHN’s New App

When was the last time you set a life-changing goal and failed to achieve it? Maybe your path to awesomeness was too long, too hard, or you just didn’t know where to start. That’s the case for many people: The destination isn’t the problem, the path itself is the problem. When your goal is whole-person wellness, you’ll need a path without obstruction, as short as possible, and easy to navigate.

Your Path To Awesomeness Starts Here

Why The Health Not?™ has a mission to empower you with the tools to reach your most important goal: personal health and overall wellbeing. WTHN has created a matchmaking platform designed to make progressive medicine attainable, affordable and available for everyone, everywhere. We’ve designed the framework for your own Path To Awesomeness.

Turning Sick Care Into Health Care

First of all, one of the biggest problems facing the current healthcare system is that professionals, who seem to make all the decisions, are the ones “responsible” for patient’s health. Also, treatments are covered only after the onset of disease or illness. This puts patients on the “defensive.” Essentially, our current system is “sick care.”

On the other hand, real “health care” means putting power back into the hands of individuals—before symptoms arise—in a system that allows patients to monitor their health and wellness, on their terms. Therefore, a real change won’t happen until this shift in perspective and power occurs.

Reclaim Ownership Of Your Wellness

WTHN wants to empower individuals to radically transform their personal health and overall wellbeing. How? Through the creation of a Health Oriented Pairing Engine available on your smart device, customized to your wants and needs, that gives you access to health providers in your area that match your criteria. Also, our platform offers users services, resources and educational materials that go beyond physical healthcare. Whole-person wellness also targets your emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual and financial needs.

The Shortest Distance To Your Goals

Your Path To Awesomess should be straight and without detours or obstacles. WTHN’s pairing engine will steer you down this path. Important data and analytics tailored to your needs will help you find streamlined solutions to minimize trial and error. Most of all, it will also maximize your ability to discover the best treatment options in your area. Another benefit of our platform will be the experiences of other users, those willing to share their challenges and successes with others facing similar circumstances.

Join Our Beta Phase Today

The power will be in your hands in February 2017 as our beta phase begins. Give our pairing engine a test run. Health Indicators, Digital Health Monitoring by Why The Health Not?™
698 400 Why The Health Not

Health Indicators: Daily Monitoring For Wellness 2.0

Optimizing whole-person wellness means regularly tracking a variety of components using advances in digital health. As a result, monitoring health indicators became one of the driving forces behind a new wellness program by Why The Health Not?™. Importantly, our vision is giving patients the capability to map individual wellness one day at a time, guided by our 6 Pillars of Wellness. Ultimately, this will bridge important gaps between “on the record” medical evaluations, resulting in a shift away from “sick care” to true healthcare.

Why Tracking Health Indicators Is Important

Since traditional healthcare typically covers in-depth physical check-ups by a doctor only once or twice a year, months of undocumented time goes by in between visits. As a result, conditions may develop and worsen without conscious awareness. This is the downside of how we’re trained to monitor health indicators in our current system; the epitome of “sick-care.” Therefore, WTHN is taking a different approach to wellness. Here’s a brief overview of our vision. Think of it as Wellness 2.0.

What Works For Olympic Athletes Will Work For You

First of all, track your healthcare needs with a virtual, customized diary. It could make a vital difference in treatment and preventative care. Best practices for whole-person wellness means daily monitoring of health indicators. That’s how Olympic athletes reach goals that determine what medal they may win, or if they will get to compete at all. Daily snapshots motivate and give important signals of progress, whether it’s diet, exercise, or another wellness goal.

Gamify Your Goals and Progress

Another important digital health capability is seeing real-time progress so you can achieve your goals. This is one of the biggest drivers behind the development of our new digital health app. And this is what patient-centric preventative care is all about. Progress turns into motivation, a real-time snapshot of what you’re doing right or wrong. Chip away on a daily basis so you can keep on track. Feel the confidence real-time feedback offers. As a result, you’ll stick to your plan with consistent reinforcement, especially if it’s positive. The key to changing your lifestyle behaviors will mean the difference between good or bad health.

With quantifiable metrics that measure and motivate you daily, you have a better chance of success. So gamify your health! It’s the new and innovative way ordinary people, not just Olympians, can incorporate wellness into their daily lives. Add some mojo to what’s most important to you, your health. And let our smartphone app help make this possible. Because WTHN is dedicated to whole-person wellness tracking, with a fun, proactive approach.

Shift Your Focus

Finally, how badly do you want to reach your health and wellness goals? Start by shifting your focus away from the status quo of today. Imagine the best version of yourself tomorrow. Almost all marketers for sports nutrition and weight loss programs find the best psychological motivators are “before” and “after” pictures of progress achieved. Since these visuals are so powerful in shifting focus toward what’s possible, go ahead and join them! Imagine you goals, monitor them daily, and want them badly. This is how you start to make them happen!

WTHN Is  Making Progress

Our vision for a Health Oriented Pairing Engine is making progress everyday. Because total wellness for all people is so important to us. Therefore, we expect our H.O.P.E. app to be ready for a beta launch February 2017. Sign up to be a beta user on our Home page and start treating your body and psyche with all the importance it deserves.

In conclusion, WTHN passionately believes in true healthcare:

A patient-centric, preventative wellness program that pairs users with healthcare providers in a HIPAA-compliant ecosystem spanning whole-person optimization.

That’s Wellness 2.0. Because Why The Health Not?

Deciphering Emotional Indicators by Why The Health Not?™
698 400 Why The Health Not

Decipher Emotional Indicators, Boost Self-Awareness

Your emotions are speaking to you. Are you listening? It’s easy to overlook one of the most commonly misunderstood aspects of our whole-person wellbeing. The logical patterns of culture and the codes of language shape much of our awareness. Making sense of our core identity isn’t easy when emotional indicators (the little voices in our heads) sometimes come out of left field.

Emotional Indicators Are An Invaluable Resource

Embrace your emotional indicators. The signals from our gut aren’t really fighting against our mental acuity. They’re actually silent helpers looking out for our best interests. Get in touch with your emotions. They’re one of the most important prognosticators of personal health. Start with giving your emotions equal attention with your other daily experiences. Interactions at work, with family—all your decision-making processes, to a certain extent—add to your emotional indicators. And everyone’s emotional language is unique. That’s why it can be so challenging and complex to decipher.

What Are Emotions, Really?

Emotions are the internal navigation system of our lives. The “feel” of a situation, person, or future choice is the bird’s eye view that predicts clear sailing or a rocky road. Don’t ignore it. Let it guide your decision making. Good choices will boost overall wellness, not deteriorate it with destructive stress.

How you express yourself depends on your emotional wellbeing. Do you lean toward the positive or the negative? Positive self-expression means your likely more in tune with your emotions. It also means you have a good balance in all six pillars of wellness. But if you’re the naysayer, the pessimist, the whiner, you may have underlying issues in other areas that erodes your self-esteem. Take a hard look at the other pillars of wellness: physical, social, spiritual, financial and intellectual. What improvements can you make in those?

Garbage in, garbage out. Your emotions translate and reflect your daily input of experiences. What balance of good and bad do you allow into your personal universe? Filter the input, which directly affects how “well” you are in every aspect of your life. The end result is your “mood,” and that affects your decision making. Choose the notes more carefully as you compose the daily song of your life. You’ll make sweeter music, heard by all around you.

Have you ever shifted your beliefs about something or someone because you learned something new? Changing your mind is okay and it happens a lot. When revelations cause a shift in our stance, it proves how strongly emotions are connected to our thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. Ultimately, emotions aren’t just components of our intellectual health. They’re also strong indicators of how we’re feeling physically and spiritually.

Emotions speak to our body. Our stomach, bladder, spine, and nervous system reflect our emotional wellness through pain, sensations, or debilitations. On the flip side, our emotions are also dictated by what our bodies are telling us. It’s a cycle of wellness or sickness. Depending on where you are on that spectrum, listening to your emotions could signal a physical issue. Don’t ignore your internal signals when they’re desperately trying to get your attention.

Learn A New Language

Deciphering emotional language can be challenging. But body language is clear if you know what you’re looking for. A study of body language will show how emotions shape what others see. Are you aware of the signals you’re sending? Try an experiment: Watch the body language of everyone you meet during the day. Look for a few of the most obvious signals:

  • Eye Contact: How often are you connecting?
  • Arms: Are they crossed, constantly moving, still?
  • Posture: Slouched, stiff, leaning in or out?
  • Personal Space: Too close or too far away?

Take an assessment of their body language to analyze your own. How do you reflect the above signals? Is your body language giving an accurate reflection of how you really feel or want to be seen by others? What adjustments can you make?

Daily Journey Of Discovery

Add something positive to your daily routine. Shift your focus to decipher your emotional indicators and how your body reflects them. Each new day can offer a new insight. Don’t judge yourself; try to discover yourself. Get in sync to enhance your emotional wellness pillar. As this gets stronger, your other wellness pillars will strengthen.

Finally, keep a daily journal as a guide for progress. As in most things: It’s quite possible you’ll learn something new every day!

Spiritual Wellness: Expand Your Mind, Fill Your Soul

Spiritual wellness is not only a matter of faith—though we hope you’ll have some faith in the power of this pillar of wellness. Of course, many peg spirituality to religious faith, an opportunity to be part of a large organization of believers. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have spiritual wellness without religion. Faith offers different things to different people. Tolerance and appreciation of these differences is the ultimate in spirituality.

What Defines Your Spiritual Wellness?

That’s a question only you can answer. It’s made up of a number of influences: faith, values, morals, ethics and belonging. Here’s another question: Is your spirituality defined by your faith, or is your faith defined by your spirituality? Here’s a list for a quick self-assessment:

  • What do you value?
  • Can you list your morals?
  • Do you have a set of beliefs?
  • When do you make time for prayer or meditation?
  • Do you display compassion, forgiveness and an ability to love?
  • Are you an active and positive member of your community?
  • Do you care for others unrelated to yourself?
  • Are you able to let go of anger?
  • Is there a higher power that you can turn to for inspiration?

Your answers will help determine your current spiritual wellness. They may also uncover possible goals to strengthen this pillar. Are you interested in learning more about different faiths? Would you be interested in seeking a spiritual leader?

Counsel In Congregation

Spiritual leaders often act as counselors for their congregations. Speaking with a spiritual leader may benefit other pillars of wellness: emotional, social and intellectual. Try seeking out experts in other faiths, or those outside traditional faith-based organizations, in order to expand your spiritual horizon.

Education Doesn’t Challenge Faith

On the contrary, it serves to guide your personal spiritual wellness. Even one of the smartest men of all time, Albert Einstein, said, “science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” As you follow an educational tangent, look for institutions that are inclusive—not only for you but also for others seeking spiritual wellness.

You’ll find yourself more engaged with your community and thinking more selflessly as you go down this path. You’ll also feel more fulfilled by your positive actions. Guess which pillar this strengthens? Social wellness!

A Gift To Yourself

Charitable acts and helping others boosts your self-worth. Along with prayer or meditation, it can greatly enhance your emotional wellness pillar. The networking and relationships you nurture in your spiritual community may also boost your intellectual, physical and financial pillars. You can see, yet again, the impact one pillar of wellness has on whole-person health. It powers your quality of life!

“Don’t ignore one pillar of wellness in favor of another lest one crumbles and falls out from under you.”Chrissy Larsen
