One such visionary was Chrissy Larsen, CEO of WTHN, who spoke at a breakout session following Kaplan’s address. She announced WTHN has developed an algorithm that matches clients to providers, services, and educational material based on the client’s needs and the provider’s abilities.

H.O.P.E., a Health Oriented Pairing Engine, creates optimal patient experiences. Referrals won’t be based on word of mouth, marketing hype or advertising. Embrace your emotional indicators. The signals from our gut aren’t really fighting against our mental acuity. They’re actually silent helpers looking out for our best interests. Get in touch with your emotions. They’re one of the most important prognosticators of personal health. Start with giving your emotions equal attention with your other daily experiences. Interactions at work, with family—all your decision-making processes, to a certain extent—add to your emotional indicators. And everyone’s emotional language is unique. That’s why it can be so challenging and complex to decipher.

Emotions are the internal navigation system of our lives. The “feel” of a situation, person, or future choice is the bird’s eye view that predicts clear sailing or a rocky road. Don’t ignore it. Let it guide your decision making. Good choices will boost overall wellness, not deteriorate it with destructive stress.

How you express yourself depends on your emotional wellbeing. Do you lean toward the positive or the negative? Positive self-expression means your likely more in tune with your emotions. It also means you have a good balance in all six pillars of wellness. Garbage in, garbage out. Your emotions translate and reflect your daily input of experiences. What balance of good and bad do you allow into your personal universe? Filter the input, which directly affects how “well” you are in every aspect of your life. The end result is your “mood,” and that affects your decision making. Choose the notes more carefully as you compose the daily song of your life. You’ll make sweeter music, heard by all around you.

Mentor

Have you ever shifted your beliefs about something or someone because you learned something new? Changing your mind is okay and it happens a lot. When revelations cause a shift in our stance, it proves how strongly emotions are connected to our thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. Ultimately, emotions aren’t just components of our intellectual health. They’re also strong indicators of how we’re feeling physically and spiritually.

Emotions speak to our body. Our stomach, bladder, spine, and nervous system reflect our emotional wellness through pain, sensations, or debilitations. On the flip side, our emotions are also dictated by what our bodies are telling us. It’s a cycle of wellness or sickness. Depending on where you are on that spectrum, listening to your emotions could signal a physical issue. Don’t ignore your internal signals when they’re desperately trying to get your attention.

Learn A New Language

Deciphering emotional language can be challenging. But body language is clear if you know what you’re looking for. A study of body language will show how emotions shape what others see. Are you aware of the signals you’re sending? Try an experiment: Watch the body language of everyone you meet during the day. Look for a few of the most obvious signals:

  • Eye Contact: How often are you connecting?
  • Arms: Are they crossed, constantly moving, still?
  • Posture: Slouched, stiff, leaning in or out?
  • Personal Space: Too close or too far away?

Take an assessment of their body language to analyze your own. How do you reflect the above signals? Is your body language giving an accurate reflection of how you really feel or want to be seen by others? What adjustments can you make?

Add something positive to your daily routine. Shift your focus to decipher your emotional indicators and how your body reflects them. Each new day can offer a new insight. Don’t judge yourself; try to discover yourself. Get in sync to enhance your emotional wellness pillar. As this gets stronger, your other wellness pillars will strengthen.

Spiritual leaders often act as counselors for their congregations. Speaking with a spiritual leader may benefit other pillars of wellness: emotional, social and intellectual. Try seeking out experts in other faiths, or those outside traditional faith-based organizations, in order to expand your spiritual horizon.

Education Doesn’t Challenge Faith

On the contrary, it serves to guide your personal spiritual wellness. Even one of the smartest men of all time, Albert Einstein, said, “science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” As you follow an educational tangent, look for institutions that are inclusive—not only for you but also for others seeking spiritual wellness.
